Welcome to the Diary of a Distracted Genius

Okay, so. Here we are.

I’ve been putting this off for a while not because I didn’t have anything to say, but because I had too much to say and not enough focus to start. Which, honestly, is probably the most on-brand way to kick off a blog called Distracted Genius.

Let me explain what this is and why you might want to stick around.

The Name – Distracted Genius

You can’t judge a monkey by its ability to swim. You can’t judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. And yet, for most of us, school spent years doing exactly that – lining everyone up against the same ruler and deciding who was “smart” and who wasn’t.

Here’s what I’ve come to believe: we’re all geniuses. Every single one of us. The problem is that most of us spend the better part of our lives never finding out what kind.

I’m one of those people. I did well enough in school nobody was handing me dunce caps but I only really figured out what I was capable of years after I walked out those gates. Turns out the things I’m best at weren’t on any exam.

Who Am I? – Another Distracted Genius

I’ll keep that one loose for now. Not because I’m hiding you’ll probably figure it out without breaking a sweat but because I don’t want this to be about me me. Some of these entries are going to get pretty real and unfiltered, and it’s just easier that way.

What I will tell you is that I’d describe myself as a Jack of All Trades. That used to feel like a backhanded compliment, but I recently fell in love with the phrase. Being a Jack of All Trades means you’re wired for breadth. For curiosity. For seeing connections other people miss because they’re too deep in one lane.

That’s not a flaw. That’s a feature.

What Is This Place?

Distracted Genius is a diary. My diary, for starters but hopefully yours too.

It’s a place to document the past, the present, and wherever we’re headed. The lessons. The detours. The moments where something finally clicked, and the longer stretches where nothing did. The weird and the wonderful and the in-between.

A heads-up: I’m a Christian, and that shapes how I see the world. These pages will be moderated by those values not preachy, not churchy, just honest about where I’m coming from.

And here’s the part I’m genuinely excited about: this isn’t just mine. If you’ve ever felt like a distracted genius like you’re a lot of things but the world keeps asking you to be just one you can submit your own diary entries. This is a place for all of us.

One Last Thing

If you’re reading this wondering whether it’s for you, here’s a simple test: have you ever felt like you were made for something but couldn’t quite pin down what? Have you ever been called “too much” or “not focused enough” by people who just didn’t get it?

Yeah. Pull up a chair.

The diary’s open.
